Switch Off Fortnight 2018

Our electricity provider EDF Energy are promoting their flagship campaign again this year – Switch off Fortnight 2018.

Educational buildings
To date 1,660 schools have committed to take part across the UK including several from Moray.  The difference this year is that schools can choose which fortnight in November suits them best within their individual school calendars.

The Switch off Fortnight campaign provides schools with resources to help them to understand why it is important not to waste energy.

It’s not just about reducing energy bills, there’s lots to learn about planet earth, energy sources and sustainability.

The EDF “Join the Pod” website provides all the details.

Non-educational buildings

We try to encourage the switch off message throughout Moray Council – not just in schools.

Take some action at your place of work to minimise energy waste.

Seven simple ways to save:

  1. Keep space around heaters clear of obstructions such as bags and boxes
  2. Radiators with thermostatic valves should be set to “3” to provide a comfortable temperature
  3. Keep one of your favourite jumpers or cardigans at work for days you feel cold
  4. Close windows and doors when the heating is on
  5. Turn appliances off – don’t leave them on standby
  6. Switch off PC monitors, radios, chargers, fans and other office electrical equipment when not in use
  7. Where lights are not automatically controlled – switch off in unoccupied rooms
