Safer People Handling - Refresher

Training and educating carers in correct methods of assessment, handling techniques and principles. This course includes a theory component carried out via e-learning and also some discussion points. The practical element to this course requires a level of fitness to participate. Suitable footwear and clothing should be worn.

Learning Outcomes

After attendance at this training participants can expect to:

  • have knowledge and understanding of current health and safety legislation, our health and safety policies and the impact of these on all of us.
  • have knowledge and understanding of the structure and functions of the spine, the causes of back pain and how to minimise injuries.
  • have knowledge and understanding of the risk assessment process and have the experience of completing a risk assessment form.
  • have knowledge and understanding of the safe principles of moving and handling as well as condemned lifts and unsafe practice.
  • have knowledge and understanding of a safe environment and how an environment can be re-arranged to increase safety and reduce risk of injury.
  • use a mobile hoist, stand aid hoist, sliding sheets, handling belt, and other small pieces of equipment.
  • have knowledge and understanding of several safe moving and handling techniques and be able to carry out these techniques to a recognised standard.
