Overview of the Council's Climate Action and Ambition

Moray Council's climate change web page has an overview of the council’s aims and what is already happening. Use this as a starting point for answering your own questions and enquiries from the public, but please contact climatechange@moray.gov.uk if you need more answers.

On our web page you'll also find:

Climate Change Training

We encourage staff to be informed about the climate crisis and to think about how it relates to your role.

Climate change officers are offering in-depth training on the climate emergency, designed to inspire action and give you the confidence to talk about the issue. 37 (and counting) staff and councillors have completed accredited training and become certified as Carbon Literate!

A brand-new climate change module is also now on the e-learning system CLIVE (find it under the CPD tab). The module is aimed at all staff as an introduction to climate change - covering the causes, impacts and required response to the crisis, and the council’s role in this. It also looks at how staff at every level can contribute to the council’s response, offering a variety of examples of how they can do this. Take this short module (approximately half an hour) and help us strengthen the council’s ability to act on climate change.

Please get in touch if you’d like to know more or sign up for the next course: climatechange@moray.gov.uk

Climate Change Engagement

The council's Climate Change Engagement Strategy is a guide for staff to align how we communicate and engage on climate and biodiversity related issues. The principles outlined in the strategy can be used for engaging with staff as well as with the public, businesses and other organisations.

Energy

There is lots of information on the council's energy webpages about saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions at home, work and in schools.

For external support with home energy, see the links page in the menu.

Low Carbon Travel

The council is a Cycling Friendly Employer and encourages staff to use active travel to get to work and attend meetings where possible.

Pool bikes (including two new e-bikes!) are located at HQ and can be booked for staff use.

Active travel maps for Elgin on the Interchange will help you get around the town safely.

If you don't live within walking or cycling distance of work, ask around to see if anyone wants to lift share

If you live on a bus route - even better! And if you are aged 21 or less, aged over 60 or qualify for a disabled person's bus pass, you can even travel by bus for free. To find out how to apply, use the following links:
