National Storytelling Week 2026

National Storytelling Week is an annual celebration created by the Society for Storytelling, celebrating the joy and power of sharing stories in all their forms. Stories help us understand the world around us, build empathy, escape the everyday and develop essential literacy skills – and they remain as important as ever.

This year’s National Storytelling Week is part of the National Year of Reading 2026 and comes at a crucial time, with reading and writing enjoyment among young people at some of the lowest levels on record. The event champions storytelling, reading and writing for pleasure, encouraging people of all ages to reconnect with stories in ways that feel meaningful and fun.

The theme for 2026 is Soundtrack Your Story. Music, rhythm and sound are at the heart of how we tell stories; from the songs that shape our memories, to the sounds of everyday life, film, games and performance. If storytelling inspires you to read more, Moray’s brilliant libraries are a great place to start - with books, eBooks, eAudiobooks and digital magazines all available. Not a member?
