Summer’s here – enjoy it safely!

With the longer days (and hopefully a bit more sunshine!), many of us are planning time off, day trips, or heading further afield for a well-earned break. Whether you’re staying local or jetting off somewhere warm, here are a few simple reminders to help you make the most of your summer – safely.
Beat the heat
Even here on Scotland’s sunshine coast, warm spells can catch us off guard. Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and take breaks in the shade if you’re out and about. If you’re travelling abroad, remember that the sun can be much stronger than at home.
Travelling smart
Before you go, check your travel insurance, keep copies of important documents, and make sure someone knows your itinerary. Keep an eye on local advice for your destination – especially if you’re visiting unfamiliar places.
Stay safe on the move
Whether you’re driving to the beach or navigating a busy airport, give yourself extra time and plan ahead. If you’re driving long distances, take regular breaks and stay alert.
Water safety matters
From lochs to lidos, open water can be unpredictable. Only swim where it’s safe to do so, keep an eye on children at all times, and be mindful of cold water shock, even on warm days.
Think security
Unfortunately, summer can be a peak time for opportunistic crime. Keep valuables out of sight, lock doors and windows at home, and be cautious with what you share on social media while you’re away.
Most importantly, take the time to relax, recharge, and enjoy yourself. A little planning goes a long way – so you can focus on making great memories this summer.
Have a fantastic (and safe!) break ☀
