Month of the Military Child
Connect. Support. Celebrate.
Every April, communities across the world, including here in Moray, take part in the Month of the Military Child (#MotMC). It’s a time to recognise and celebrate children and young people from Armed Forces families and the important role they play in our communities.
With many service families living and working in Moray, this month offers a chance to build understanding, raise awareness and show meaningful support in line with our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
Recognise Unique Journeys and Experiences
For children and young people from Armed Forces families, change can take many forms. Some may move between schools or communities, while others may stay in one place but experience change around them, as friends move and parents deploy or are posted elsewhere.
Every family’s experience is different. The Month of the Military Child is a chance to recognise these unique journeys and ensure support is child-centred, respectful and inclusive, as part of our commitment to the wellbeing of all children and young people. It’s also a time to reflect on the support we provide throughout the year and to celebrate the resilience and contributions of Armed Forces children across Moray.
Wear Purple and Show Your Support
Purple represents all branches of the Armed Forces. It’s a colour of unity and a visible sign of support. On Friday 25 April, join others across Moray for Purple Up Day by wearing purple in your workplace, school or community setting.
Learn Why the Dandelion Matters
The dandelion is the official flower of the military child. It symbolises resilience and strength, able to thrive in different environments and adapt to new situations. Just like the dandelion, children may face change, but they continue to grow and flourish.
