LGBTQ+ History Month 2025
LGBTQ+ History Month runs throughout February every year and is dedicated to recognising and celebrating the contributions, struggles, and achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other queer individuals (LGBTQ+) throughout history.
It provides an opportunity to reflect on the past and present of the LGBTQ+ community, celebrate LGBTQ+ culture, acknowledge progress towards equality over time, and consider how history can inform a more inclusive future.
As a council, we are committed to promoting equality and valuing diversity:
- as an employer and as colleagues
- in the services we provide
- in partnerships and relationships with our communities
- in the decisions we make
The theme of LGBTQ+ History Month 2025 is ‘Activism and Social Change’, celebrating the activists who have played a crucial role in shaping society and advancing LGBTQ+ rights. From historical figures who fought against oppression to modern advocates pushing for greater inclusivity, activism has been instrumental in driving progress for the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
