Career Ready

At Moray Council, we’re committed to ensuring that every young person, regardless of background, has the opportunity to kickstart a rewarding future. That’s why we’re delighted to be working with Career Ready, a UK-wide social mobility charity, to host young people for paid, four-week internships this summer, as well as ensuring that they receive ongoing mentoring support as part of the programme. They’ll be working in departments across the business to develop the skills and experience needed to kickstart their futures in the world of work. We’re proud to be supporting young talent in this way, especially as the pandemic has seen a cut in the workplace opportunities available for young people, and it underlines our commitment to investing in the next generation of talent. Throughout their time with us, we’ll be sharing updates and highlights about what our interns have been up to and their progress with us. In the meantime, you can find out more about Career Ready here:www.careerready.org.uk regardless of background, has the opportunity to kickstart a rewarding future.

None of this would be possible without the hard work and commitment of our wonderful mentors.

There is no denying that being a mentor is a commitment. It requires regular contact with the young person over the 18-month programme and the planning of the summer internship.

But the benefits are clear:

  • 91% of students say Career Ready raised their career aspirations.
  • 87% of alumni said Career Ready had a positive impact on their life.
  • 83% of employers would hire their Career Ready young person if the opportunity was available.
  • 89% of mentors report their mentoring and coaching skills as excellent or good at the end of the programme, compared to 40% at the start.
  • 98% of Career Ready students’ progress onto positive destinations in education or employment.

If you would like to become a mentor and support a young person during the 2023/ 2024 Career Ready programme, we would love to hear from you.
