Sensory Awareness Training Offer
Fully Funded Sensory Awareness (or Visual Awareness and Deaf Awareness) Training by North East Sensory Service
Suitable for anyone who works in in a customer facing role at Moray Council, as well as Health & Social Care Moray (H&SCM), where they come into contact with the general public in terms of making services accessible and inclusive for people who are living with sight and/or hearing loss or Deafness.
The British Sign Language (Scotland) Act 2015 requires public bodies to promote the use of BSL to make services more accessible. As a council we have committed to addressing the following actions, among others, within our Moray British Sign Language (BSL) Plan 2024 - 2030:
- BSL training for Council staff and the general public, where relevant and required for delivering certain services
- Develop an effective two-way communication between BSL users and Moray Council’s Contact Centre
- Ensure BSL users can access the council’s emergency and out of hours numbers effectively
- Develop ways BSL users can be involved in public consultations, especially concerning Moray Growth Deal and budget consultations
The training will go some way to help achieve these commitments.
