Safer Internet Day 2026: Making Smart Tech, Safe Choices

Safer Internet Day is coming up on Tuesday 10 February 2026, and this year’s theme is “Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.”
As AI becomes part of everyday life - from the tools we use at work to the tech young people are using at home - it’s more important than ever that we all feel confident, informed and empowered to use it safely.
This global awareness day encourages everyone to think about how we interact online and how we can help create a more positive, respectful and secure digital world. It’s coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, with thousands of organisations taking part each year.
AI and smart technology bring huge opportunities, but they also come with challenges. This year’s theme encourages us to:
- Understand what AI can (and can’t) do
- Make informed decisions about the tools we use
- Consider privacy, data and the reliability of the content we see
- Support young people, colleagues and communities to stay safe online
Whether it’s managing your personal data, spotting misinformation, or simply thinking twice before sharing online, Safer Internet Day is a reminder that small actions add up.
Throughout the week, take a moment to:
- Review privacy settings on your devices and apps
- Talk with colleagues about online safety habits
- Share helpful tips or resources within your team
- Reflect on how AI influences what you see and do online
Online safety isn’t just about avoiding risks, it’s about creating a digital space where everyone feels confident, respected and informed. By making smart choices with smart tech, we help build a safer digital environment for all of us.
