New Phishing Awareness Training – Launching Soon

We will shortly be launching an updated phishing awareness training module for all staff.

This short module builds on the basic phishing awareness training you should have already completed and focuses on how phishing attacks have continued to evolve and how we can recognise and respond to them in real‑world situations.

What is the training?

The module is made up of a small number of short, focused “nano” videos, each followed by a brief quiz. Together, they reinforce key phishing awareness messages and develop the skills needed to spot and respond to increasingly convincing attacks.

The entire training takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

What does the training cover?

The updated module explores:

  • How to spot phishing messages by recognising common manipulation techniques such as urgency, authority and emotional pressure
  • Why everyone can be a phishing target, and how even basic access can be valuable to criminals
  • The increased risk of phishing on smartphones, where we often act more quickly and with less scrutiny
  • How attackers combine emails, texts and phone calls to make scams appear genuine and bypass protections
  • Practical techniques to pause and assess messages before taking action

The focus is on recognising patterns and making good decisions, rather than technical detail.

Why is this important?

While the original phishing training focused on recognising obvious scams, phishing attacks today are far more convincing and often designed to look legitimate at first glance.

Criminals increasingly rely on:

  • urgency and fear
  • familiarity and trust
  • distraction or time pressure

Even experienced users can be caught out in the right circumstances. This updated training helps reinforce awareness and supports safer decision‑making, especially when under pressure.

Why does everyone need to complete it?

Phishing attacks are not targeted at specific roles or departments they are sent to anyone with an account, an inbox or a mobile device.

Because we all interact with messages differently, this training ensures everyone has a shared understanding of:

  • what modern phishing attacks look like
  • how attackers try to influence our behaviour
  • and how to respond safely and consistently

Cyber security is a shared responsibility, and awareness remains one of the most effective ways to reduce risk across the organisation.

Further details on how and when to access the training will be shared shortly.

Thank you for helping to keep our organisation and each other secure.
