Cyber Security Awareness – Ransomware eLearning

Dear Colleagues,

In today’s digital age, ransomware attacks have become a significant threat to organisations big and small, and Moray Council is not immune to that threat. Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system or data until a sum of money is paid. These attacks can have devastating consequences, from financial losses to reputational damage and operational disruptions.

Ransomware attacks often demand substantial ransom payments.  Critical data can be encrypted and rendered inaccessible.  Even if the ransom is paid, there is no guarantee that the data will be restored, or that some data may remain lost or corrupted. Ransomware could hit multiple council operations, affecting essential services and causing significant delays in public service delivery.

To that end and following on from the previous Phishing and Password eLearning modules, the next cyber awareness module will be about Ransomware.

What you can expect

Later this week, you will receive an email from no-reply@metacompliance.com which will contain a link to the online training module provided by MetaCompliance, and will look like this:

The purpose of the training is to learn about essential preventive measures, such as recognizing phishing emails, avoiding suspicious links, and maintaining strong, unique passwords that are critical in reducing the likelihood of a successful ransomware attack.

The training module lasts approximately 15 minutes and will help foster a culture of cyber resilience within Moray Council. Let’s take this important step together and make our digital environment safer for everyone, and less susceptible to a ransomware attack.
