Draft Active Travel Strategy 2022-2027

We’re looking for your views on our draft Active Travel Strategy which was approved by elected members on Tuesday 07 December 2021. The strategy aims to make active travel an appealing and realistic choice for short journeys across Moray and we need your ideas on how to do this.

The 12-week public consultation period commenced on Monday 10 January 2022 with a number of virtual consultation events scheduled to take place.  The comments and responses received during this period will be taken into consideration when finalising the strategy later in the year.

Active travel is becoming increasingly more important in society today and has a major role in encouraging physical activity compared to other forms of exercise.  There have been notable increases in cycling and walking since the start of the pandemic, with almost all fixed cycle and pedestrian counters across Moray recording an increase in journey numbers.

Having an up-to-date and relevant strategy will enable us to effectively continue to increase opportunities for safe, attractive and enjoyable active travel. As well as this, it’ll help in meeting our need, both locally and internationally, to combat climate change and reduce our carbon emissions.

The delivery of strategy will be done through the council’s programme of promoting sustainable and active travel, cross departmental work with other areas of the council and the ongoing partnership approach with external funders, communities and other interested parties.
