Estate Walkabouts Begin

Moray Council’s annual estate walkabouts get underway this week, giving tenants the chance to highlight what’s working well in their area and suggest improvements for the future.
Running from Monday 24 August in Cullen through to Tuesday 22 September in Forres, the walkabouts bring together tenants, elected members and housing officers to discuss local priorities and identify opportunities for estate improvements.
The walkabouts are an important part of the council’s tenant participation programme and help inform decisions on how estate improvement funding is spent. Residents are encouraged to share their views on everything from paths and fencing to parking, lighting and communal areas.
Housing colleagues will be involved in leading and attending the walkabouts, speaking directly with tenants and recording suggestions for improvements. Staff from other services may also hear from the Housing team if issues are raised that fall outside their remit.
Last year, tenants raised a range of issues during the walkabouts. While some were addressed through practical improvements such as repairs to footpaths and communal areas, others were passed to relevant council services for follow-up. This included requests for a storm drain in Aberlour to be cleared by the flood alleviation team, a suggestion for a road to become a one-way system which was referred to the roads team and concerns about abandoned caravans on the Speyside Way between Portgordon and Buckie which were shared with the Community Warden and Environmental Health team.
