Digital Champions 23

Do you need to develop your digital skills?
Well, you are not alone, according to the Lloyds Bank’s 2020 UK Consumer 2020 Index, 52% of people in the workforce lack digital skills.

The demand for digital skills in the workplace has never been greater, and in a progressively digital world, developing these skills can have a hugely positive impact on your work and home life. With more colleagues working remotely, and 82% of all jobs in the UK listing digital skills as a requirement, being digitally literate is becoming increasingly important no matter your role.

What are Digital Skills?
Digital skills are broadly described by UNESCO as the ability to use digital devices, communication applications, and networks to access and manage information. These skills allow us to create and share content, communicate, and collaborate more effectively. So, as we use SharePoint to store and manage our files or Microsoft Teams to collaborate with colleagues from across Scotland, we need to develop our digital skills to get the most from these applications.

And, as technology changes we must continue to develop our digital skills so that we can continue to embrace new technologies and new ways of working.

Bridging the Digital Skills Gap
In response to this demand, we have the Digital Champions network. Our Digital Champions are an engaged group of passionate employees, who recognise the value of technology, and are committed to helping colleagues improve their confidence, motivation, and digital skills for work. Through peer-to-peer learning, Digital Champions are supporting colleagues with a range of digital tasks from helping someone get to grips with making a video call on Microsoft Teams, accessing eLearning or getting the most from Excel.

The Champions have also proven to be invaluable in supporting the introduction of new technologies as they test applications and inform the design of new processes. And we predict their support will be in great demand when we all migrate from Microsoft Office 2016 to Microsoft 365 in the coming months.
