Continuing with our Let’s Talk Menopause articles…..
The menopause is a normal life event for a woman, It’s not an illness or a medical condition but despite this, the ‘M word’ still remains a word that is mostly unspoken and in some cases it’s seen as a taboo subject.
As a result, many women continue to experience the menopause in silence, some experiencing physical and mental symptoms for many years alone, not wanting to cause awkwardness or social discomfort by speaking up about what they are experiencing and how they may be feeling.
The increased publicity of the menopause in recent years has opened up the communication channels, with information and support widely available.
Simply having a conversation about the menopause is the best place to begin. If you are experiencing symptoms, having a conversation with someone you feel comfortable with can be the first step towards feeling better supported and understood. This could be with family, friends, managers, colleagues or utilising one of the many support services available.
The council have recently created a menopause policy which you can find here
To complement the policy, a manager’s guidance and an eLearning module have been created to give additional information and support. The guidance can be found here and the eLearning module is available on CLIVE.
