Moray Council moves ahead with Trusted Trader scheme
Do you have someone in the family in the trades?
Moray Council has launched an approved Trusted Trader scheme to protect householders from rogue traders and trustworthy traders are being sought to join up.
Can you help to get the word out?
With vetting by Trading Standards, only the most validated and trustworthy traders will get a place on this scheme.
What is a Trusted Trader Scheme?
Many local authorities run approved trader schemes. They help residents to find traders they can trust. A trusted trader scheme is basically just a list of local businesses that have been vetted by Trading Standards and who have made a commitment to treat their customers fairly.
What do membership benefits include?
- Credibility: Moray Trusted Trader logo for your vehicles, letterheads, business cards, etc.
- Promotion and visibility: More business should come your way.
- A business listing in the only official Moray trader directory supported by Police Scotland.
- A Customer Satisfaction reviews platform: Showcase your work.
What does it mean for Moray residents?
Residents can access a directory of Moray businesses that Trading Standards consider to be operating to a high consumer protection standard.
A phone helpline is also available for consumers who do not use the internet.
Moray Council’s Trading Standards team handles around 50 complaints a year from consumers unhappy with poor quality work carried out on their homes.
The costs are estimated to have be more than half a million pounds in the last three years alone.
Principal Trading Standards Officer Muriel Allan said: “We are contacting local Moray traders now and we are inviting them to sign up to our scheme. We look forward to seeing our Trusted Trader directory build up for Moray customers.”
The initial £2,000 cost of setting up the Moray Trusted Trader scheme with Trusted Directory Services (TDS) is being met by the council and subsequently funded through annual subscription fees paid by businesses.
