Parental Leave

Parental leave is a right to take time off work to look after your child or make arrangements for your child's welfare. You can use it to spend more time with your children and strike a better balance between your work and family commitments.

All the benefits of parental leave referred to within the policy apply to you whether you are a full-time or part-time employee, provided you meet the eligibility criteria below:

The council extends entitlement of parental leave to all its employees who have one year or more continuous service and where the employee:

  • is named on the child's birth or adoption certificate
  • does have, or is expected to have, parental responsibility for a child
