Mentoring Young Talent

The council is supporting a new programme called Mentoring Young Talent to help young people boost their confidence, skills and qualifications.
Mentors are sought from within the council alongside other local employers to support young people between the ages of 12-26 years across moray. The role is to develop a 1-1 relationship, providing encouragement, a listening ear and giving insights into your experiences of the world of work. The commitment is a minimum of one hour a week.
Mentoring benefits young people building their confidence, helping them identify their strengths and take steps forward to set and achieve goals while being a mentor can improve your interpersonal skills, leadership qualities and understanding of the challenges our local young people face. Mentoring provides a supported opportunity to develop your own skills and can form part of your CPD choices.
The chief executive and team managers have agreed to support any staff member who wish to take this opportunity. Where possible, staff will be able to use this as a personal development opportunity and provide mentoring support during normal working hours. Full training and support will be provided. Authority from your line manager is required to undertake this role during your work time.
We have two streams to the programme, providing mentors to care experienced young people between the ages of 12-16years that are currently enrolled within school. The second stream supports young people from 16-26 from any background, starting at the stage of preparing to leave school, college etc that may have difficulty identifying and maintaining a full time destination like employment, education or training.
