Healthy Working Lives – ‘The Wee Spring Challenge’



You’ve probably heard that we should all aim to walk at least 10,000 steps per day to be considered as ‘active’ and not ‘sedentary’… but do you? With spring around the corner it’s a good chance to get out and about!

To encourage a little more activity the HWL group challenge you to walk 10,000 steps per day during late April and May. It can include ALL steps taken during the day: doing the housework, at the gym, or whatever your daily routine entails – you’ll be surprised how quickly it adds up. To make it a bit more fun, register a team and encourage each other to keep going!

If you’re more of a cyclist than a walker then you can take part in the cycle challenge. Get together with a fellow cyclist and try the Cycle Challenge – aim for 35 miles each per week. Whether it’s a cycle to work, out with friends or family, total it up and see how you get on.

You will need:
• A team of four for the walk / two for cycling with your own bikes
• Four pedometers – or anything that counts your steps
• The commitment to cover the distances required – 896 km for the walk challenge and 448km for the cycle challenge.

All teams that register will compete to finish all stages of the walk/cycle first – so try and aim for a bit more!

We will publish everyone’s results in the news section of the interchange every Monday. Which teams will be crowned champions?
