Possible BT Scam Warning for all Schools

We have had reports from our colleagues in Aberdeenshire that “One of our schools was contacted by telephone yesterday by someone claiming to be from BT, the person was trying to get information about the IT devices that they use in their school. They were very forthright and when the school advised that they would refer the person to our IT department they hung up.”
We would like to advise all schools to be aware of this possibility and not to disclose any information if they receive a similar call and advise the caller to contact ICT.
To complicate matters BT are in our area at present switching schools over to their new SWAN connections, however these should be pre-arranged visits which ICT will make schools aware of. If you do receive a visit that you are not expecting please contact ICT.
