Final pre-election full council meeting

13/01/2017

DATE OF FINAL MEETING OF THE MORAY COUNCIL PRIOR TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

At the meeting of the Moray Council held on 7 December 2016, the Council agreed to bring forward the final full council meeting from Wednesday 5 April  to Wednesday 29 March 2017 to coincide with the deadline for the close of nominations for the forthcoming local government elections. The deadline for reports to be submitted for this meeting will therefore be Thursday 16 March 2017.

The council will enter what is known as the pre-election period which is the period between the announcement of an election on Monday 13 March and Polling Day on Thursday 4 May 2017 inclusive. Whilst the essential business of the council should continue subject to the restrictions of the pre-election period, by 5 April some elected members themselves will be officially declared as candidates seeking re-election and be firmly within the campaign period. To ensure there is no appearance of support for any particular party or individual seeking election, re-scheduling this meeting prior to the publication of Notice of Poll on 29 March 2017 reduces this possibility. If you require any further information regarding the change please contact Committee Services.
