NHS Grampian is offering free and confidential testing for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.
Blood borne viruses (hepatitis B, C and HIV) can affect anyone regardless of age, race, gender or lifestyle. Many people with blood borne viruses are unaware that they are infected, and therefore at risk of becoming unwell or infecting others. The NHS' message is 'It's better to know' so those affected can access the support and treatment they need to keep well.
Who should be tested? Anyone who has ever:
- Had unprotected sex
- Injected or snorted drugs
- Had a tattoo or piercing in unsterile conditions, including abroad, home or prison
- Had medical treatment abroad
- Those who were born abroad
This is a small finger prick test that can be performed quickly with minimum discomfort or inconvenience.
Treatment for blood borne viruses is free for everyone in Scotland.
